– How to make a story interesting to reporters – Assess the story’s timeliness.
– Figure out the personal hook that differentiate the information provided. – Figure out who the story impacts.
– The story needs to be of interest to the readers of the outlet that is targeted. – Analyze the story’s prominence, or the prominence of the people the story is about.
When asked about the reasons behind the tip sheet, Katie Coates, Creator of The PR Secrets said, “Nobody really cares about a story unless it’s educational, entertaining or makes people’s lives better, so a story about a business or product needs to offer something to the reader – and be appealing to the media outlet that will run it. “
Business owners find that the visibility offered by media relations, which is one arm of Public Relations, goes far beyond the initial investment of time in getting a story published. Media coverage is a method of obtaining leverage that can give businesses lasting marketing returns well into the future, as news stories live on.
The tip sheet is available for free and business owners are encouraged to share the tips with others who find the information useful. Any questions can be answered by going to the company blogsite to get the nine tips Refine_Your_Story.
